Fiji Deepens Relations with US, UK with New Ambassadors

Suva, Fiji –  In a ceremony held by the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the nation bid farewell to its newly appointed Ambassadors, Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi and Jovilisi Suveinakama, as they prepare to depart for their respective postings in the United States and the United Kingdom respectively.

Vuidreketi, Fiji’s new Ambassador to the U.S., brings a wealth of experience to the table. Having spent over two decades in trade, tourism, finance, investment, and building the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).  Vuidreketi’s leadership experience is further supported by his time as the Chief Executive Officer of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation.

Meanwhile, Jovilisi Suveinakama takes the helm as Fiji’s High Commissioner to the UK. Before his appointment, Suveinakama served as a consultant lawyer, offering commercial advice to both domestic and international clients through Toganivalu Legal. His legal expertise is recognized across four jurisdictions: New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, and Tokelau. Suveinakama was also the Chief Policy and Strategic Advisor to the Tokelauan government from 2010 to 2017.

Both Vuidreketi and Suveinakama were officially commissioned by Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) expressed its confidence in the new appointees, owing to their qualifications and commitment to strengthening Fiji’s diplomatic relations with the U.S. and the UK.
