The French Ambassador to Korea, Philippe Bertoux, recently visited Renault Korea’s Busan plant, highlighting its vital role in both the Korean and French automotive industries. During the tour, he witnessed firsthand the production facilities boasting the highest quality standards within the entire Renault Group global network.

Renault Korea plays a critical role in the company’s international strategy, serving as one of five global hubs responsible for developing and producing high-end D and E segment vehicles for markets outside of Europe. These segments encompass mid-size family cars (D) and full-size executive sedans (E).

Commenting on his visit, Ambassador Bertoux expressed his appreciation for the strong partnership between Korea and France, stating, “Seeing the Korean and French flags side-by-side within the Busan plant serves as a powerful reminder of Renault Korea’s significant contribution to both countries. Witnessing the impressive results achieved at this facility further strengthens my confidence in the success of Renault Korea’s Aurora project.”

Project Aurora marks Renault Korea’s commitment to introducing a range of electrified models to both domestic and international markets. The project’s first offering, a hybrid D SUV, is slated for launch in the second half of 2024 and will be positioned as a completely new model rather than a successor to existing vehicles.

Ambassador Bertoux, who assumed his role in July 2023, brings extensive experience in strategic affairs, security, and disarmament, having previously served as Director at France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

While the specific date of the visit remains unmentioned, this report, sourced from Renault Korea, provides valuable insights into the company’s commitment to quality, global reach, and its strategic shift towards electrification, as exemplified by the upcoming Aurora project.
