Igli Hasani Appointed Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Igli Hasani is now Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, a pivotal role in the nation’s diplomatic landscape. He already expressed his gratitude in a recent tweet to Prime Minister Edi Rama, the government, and the parliament for this significant appointment. Albania is focused on enhancing its international relations and navigating global politics, making this a crucial moment.

In the same tweet, Hasani showed appreciation for his predecessor, Olta Xhacka, which highlights his commitment to building upon past diplomatic achievements while pursuing new successes.

Hasani brings substantial diplomatic and international relations experience to his new position. His previous roles include serving as Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna since 2018, as well as holding positions such as Secretary General at the Ministry of Defence in 2017-2018 and Director General for Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence from 2014 to 2017.

Before his government service, Hasani worked as a journalist and editor with various Albanian newspapers and TV stations from 1997 to 2001. He holds a law degree from the University of Tirana, Albania (2001-2006), a Master’s in International Relations from King’s College London, United Kingdom (2006), and studied at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, United Kingdom (2005). He also holds a degree in Sociology and Philosophy from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tirana, Albania (1996-2001).

In his role as Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, he will focus on advancing Albania’s economic development, strengthening counter-terrorism efforts, and fostering economic cooperation with other nations.
