India and Myanmar recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of their bilateral relations, organized by the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Association in Mumbai. Dignitaries, including Ambassador Moe Kyaw Aung, First Secretary Ms. May Zaw Maung, and Consul Jayaraman Ranganathan, attended the event.
During the ceremony, Adv. Mohanrao Pimple, Founder & Managing Trustee of Dadasaheb Phalke M.S.K Trust, presented Ambassador Moe Kyaw Aung with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his contributions to promoting bilateral ties between India and Myanmar. In his speech, Ambassador Moe Kyaw Aung emphasized the importance of enhancing educational, cultural and tourism ties between the two nations, as reported by PiPa. He also talked about business cooperation in the pharmaceuticals, agriculture, IT and Energy sectors.
India and Myanmar share a long history of social, cultural, and trade ties, despite being separated by the British in 1937. Presently, India is Myanmar’s fourth-largest trading partner. Myanmar is also a popular destination for India’s Buddhist population, given its natural beauty and cultural attractions.
To enhance India-Myanmar friendship and bilateral relations, Honorary Consul Krishna Pimple and Adv. Mohanrao Pimple have since initiated several projects promoting cultural and trade ties between the two countries. The Indo-Myanmar Friendship Association and the Embassy of Myanmar are also working together to promote regular exchange and travel programs.
The launch of direct flights between Chennai and Yangon by Myanmar Airways is expected to boost travel and tourism between the two nations, further strengthening their historical and cultural ties.
Overall, the 75th anniversary of India-Myanmar bilateral relations and friendship marks a new beginning in the relationship between them. There is enormous potential for growth in business, education, culture, and tourism ties.
