The Iranian Foreign Ministry has announced that its foreign minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, will be visiting Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday, August 17. The ministry says that the visit will center on efforts at bilateral discussion.

The foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, had earlier visited Tehran, where he had discussions with high-ranking government officials, including the foreign minister, Amb. Amirabdollahian.

Earlier in the month, the Saudi Embassy in Tehran communicated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran, confirming that it had resumed activities at its Consulate in Mashhad.

The Chargé d’affaires at the Saudi Embassy arrived in Tehran some weeks ago to resume duties, all in an effort to begin a new chapter in diplomatic relations with Iran.

In a move to engender stronger ties between the two countries, the newly appointed Chargé d’affaires of the Iranian embassy is also expected to visit Riyadh.

The new Iranian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Amb. Alireza Enayati, and the newly appointed Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Iran, Abdullah Saud Al-Anzi, have had their letters of credence accepted by their designate countries.

It is not certain when the two newly appointed ambassadors will resume official duties at the embassy in Tehran and Riyadh, respectively.
