Jane Marriott, a highly accomplished diplomat, has been appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Pakistan, succeeding Dr. Christian Turner CMG. Currently serving as the British High Commissioner to Nairobi, Ms. Marriott will assume her new role in July 2023. Her appointment comes at a crucial juncture for the UK-Pakistan relationship as both nations aim to deepen ties across various domains, including trade, security and education.

Ms. Marriott has an impressive track record in the diplomatic service, having served in diverse capacities in different regions around the world. She previously held the position of Director of the Joint International Counter-Terrorism Unit at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Home Office, demonstrating her dedication to combating terrorism. Additionally, she served as the Additional Director of the Middle East and North Africa Directorate at the FCO, highlighting her expertise in the region.

Furthermore, Ms. Marriott fulfilled roles such as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Sana’a and positions as Chargée d’Affaires and Deputy Head of Mission in Tehran. Her experiences in these challenging diplomatic roles demonstrate her adeptness in navigating complex political landscapes. Moreover, she held various roles within the FCO, including Head of Nuclear Non-Proliferation, illustrating her extensive knowledge of global affairs. Her previous engagements in the Cabinet Office and Home Office further highlight her proficiency in managing sensitive matters of national importance.

Ms. Marriott’s appointment serves as evidence of the UK’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan and promoting peace and stability in the region.
