Jordan and Mexico celebrated 48 years of diplomatic relations. The event, which was hosted by the Mexican Embassy, began with an open discourse on “Historia Minima de Mexico”, a book on Mexican history recently translated into Arabic.
At the event, Ambassador Sabah Al Rafie, the Director of North American Affairs at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reflected on the long-held ties between the two countries.
According to her, this can be seen through a series of engagements between them and, recently, the many memoranda of understanding signed between Mexican and Jordanian universities.
While speaking at the event, Al Rafie spoke about the longevity of their strong ties in sectors such as economy and trade, culture and education, and diplomacy.
She said that the event was a “momentous occasion that is a testament to the enduring friendship and unwavering cooperation between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the United Mexican States”.
On his part, the Director-General of the Department of Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East, Octavio Tripp Villanoba, expressed the impact of His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to Mexico in 2014 on the relationship between the two countries.
According to Villanoba, the king’s visit and that of others from Mexico to Jordan had aided the strengthening of bilateral relations between them.
He expressed his interest in seeing Jordanian history captured like “Te Amo Mexico” so as to advance cultural engagements and deepen relations between them.
Also present at the event was Adli Khalidi, Jordan’s Ambassador to Mexico. He extolled Mexico’s relationship with Jordan, referring to them as “true partners.” He asked for the deepening of their ties through strategic cooperation. He pointed out that cultural exchanges, cash flow, trade, worker mobility, and various economic engagements are all that are needed to deepen relations between the two countries.
His counterpart, Roberto Rodriguez-Hernandez, Mexico’s ambassador to Jordan, expressed the commitment of both countries to the principles of sovereignty, freedom, self-determination, and peace.
While speaking at the event, he expressed gratitude for the support given to Mexico by the Jordanian government. And the impactful influence of the valued Jordanian-Mexican Friendship Association on the two countries. He approved the high-level peaceful coexistence in Jordan and Mexico’s position on the Israeli-Palestine issue, saying that will help foster peace in that region of the world.
Amb. Rodriguez-Hernandez ended his speech by saying that “there’s a lot more to do, so let’s do it, and let’s have more Jordan in Mexico and Latin America, and more Mexico in Jordan.”
The event was kept alive with a performance from the folkloric group known as “Te Amo Mexico”. There was also a performance from the Chorus Mariachi, “Renacimiento” (Renaissance), led by Maestro Francisco Ortega. The event was held at the Haya Cultural Center in Amma, Jordan.
