In a recent diplomatic meeting, the Kenyan Ambassador to the United States, Amb. Lazarus Amayo joined other diplomats and senior officials from the World Bank for the Ambassadors’ working lunch hosted by Dr. Floribert Ngaruko, the World Bank Executive Director. The meeting was held at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC, where critical updates on the World Bank Group’s operations, its new evolution, and the US-Africa Leader’s Summit 2022 outcomes were discussed.

During the discussions, Amb. Amayo expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the World Bank in addressing the needs of Sub-Saharan Africa in critical areas such as infrastructure, food security, response to pandemics, energy, and digitization. He praised the bank’s efforts to support African countries in achieving their development goals and called for continued collaboration to enhance these efforts.

Other speakers at the meeting included H.E Amb. Hilda Suka Mafudze, the African Union Ambassador; H.E Amb. Abubakar Sidique Wai of Sierra Leone; Alternate Executive Director, Dr. Zarau Kibwe; and Senior advisors, Mr. Fisseha Kidane and Ms. Naomi Rono, both from the World Bank.

The meeting was an opportunity for African Ambassadors to engage with the World Bank on issues of mutual interest and to provide input on the bank’s future direction. It provided a platform for African countries to showcase their achievements and challenges, as well as to explore opportunities for collaboration with the World Bank.
