Lithuanian Neliupsiene Takes Helm as EU Ambassador to the US

Accomplished Lithuanian diplomat Jovita Neliupsiene officially assumed the position of European Union Ambassador to the United States on January 1, 2024. Neliupsiene’s extensive background in European affairs, trade, and international relations positions her as a seasoned leader equipped to navigate the complex dynamics of the EU-US partnership.

With a wealth of experience in both European and American priorities, Neliupsiene’s career trajectory exemplifies her deep understanding of diplomatic intricacies. She previously served as Lithuania’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, adeptly coordinating European affairs, bilateral and regional issues, and national sanctions. Before this, her role as Vice Minister of Economy and Innovation showcased her prowess in steering investment and export promotion.

Beyond her recent high-profile roles, Neliupsiene’s diplomatic journey includes a pivotal period as Lithuania’s Ambassador to the EU from 2015 to 2020, where she successfully managed challenges such as the migration crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Her previous contributions also include advising the Lithuanian President on foreign policy and leading the country’s EU Council presidency in 2013.

Neliupsiene’s expertise extends globally, particularly in the realm of security and communication. Her leadership in spearheading the NATO public awareness campaign before Lithuania’s accession underscores her strategic understanding of security issues, which is poised to play a crucial role in addressing contemporary global challenges.

Known for her adeptness at bridging divides and fostering collaboration, Neliupsiene has led delegations to various countries and organizations, showcasing her consensus-building and progress-driving skills. Her academic background, including a PhD in Social Science and a Masters in International Relations from Vilnius University, aligns with her commitment to public service and knowledge sharing through published works and university lecturing.
