Atlanta, Georgia- On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Morris Brown College held its Commencement Ceremony at the historic Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia. During the event, Dr. Yaw Amponsah Adoo, Chair of the Department of Business, proudly accepted the 2024 Dr. Nasrolah Farokhi Leadership Award in recognition of his efforts to promote and support scholarly community engagement among faculty, staff, and students.
The award recognizes leaders in the Office of Academic Affairs who advance and encourage scholarly participation within the community. The award is named after Professor Emeritus Dr. Nasrolah Farokhi, who dedicated over forty years to Morris Brown College. It embodies a legacy of academic dedication and community involvement.
Dr. Adoo’s recognition affirms his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to academic excellence at Morris Brown College. His contributions have notably enhanced the intellectual and personal growth of students. Furthermore, his efforts in building partnerships and promoting knowledge-sharing across academic and administrative platforms are commendable.
When sharing his thoughts on the award with Diplomatic Watch Magazine, Dr. Amponsah expressed: “I feel deeply honored to receive the Dr. Nasrolah Farokhi Leadership Award. Dr. Adoo’s career at Morris Brown College includes serving as Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, where his leadership played a crucial role in student success and academic accomplishments. The college acknowledged his dedication by presenting him with the Institutional Leadership Award during the 2023 commencement ceremony, thus reinforcing his significant impact.
Beyond his academic roles, Dr. Adoo founded and manages Education & Management Consulting, LLC (EMCLLC), a consultancy known for delivering innovative organizational development and training solutions. His international collaborations, such as with Ecole Thérèse Internationale in Ghana, affirm his commitment to curriculum development, cultural appreciation, diversity, and leadership growth.
Dr. Adoo’s has a BA in Economics, a BS in Business Management, and an MPH in Community Health Education from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Argosy University/Atlanta’s College of Business, an ACBSP-accredited program. He is also an alumnus of Adisadel College and Ghana National College in Ghana.
Morris Brown College, established in 1881 by the Georgia Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, stands as a pioneering institution of higher education for the Black community in Georgia. With a rich history of over a century, the college offers a diverse range of academic programs. Remarkably, it is among the distinguished group of 10 fully accredited historically Black colleges and universities in Georgia.
