The chairperson of the Nigeria Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, revealed that the Global African Diaspora Symposium (GADS) will be held in Nigeria in April during a joint press conference organized ahead of the GADS.
She expressed approval while appraising the positive impact of the GADS. According to her, “It is good to know that efforts are being made by Africa to effectively harness the human and economic potentials of its diaspora for continental, national, and even grassroots development.”
“This is demonstrated in the areas of diaspora remittances, skills and knowledge transfer, and socio-economic investments.”
“This is in consonance with the fifth aspiration of the AU Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want”, which is Africa with a stronger cultural identity and Pan-African movement. Building stronger connections between Africa and the global diaspora is the theme of the summit.”
She continued, “This symposium is intended to discuss and propose practical solutions to some of Africa’s most pressing problems, as well as tactics and vital collaborations between significant diaspora business and professional leaders and leaders on the African continent, according to the speaker.“This is demonstrated in the areas of diaspora remittances, skills and knowledge transfer, and socio-economic investments.”
“This is in consonance with the fifth aspiration of the AU Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want”, which is Africa with a stronger cultural identity and Pan-African movement”.
“It will build bridges between Africa and the diaspora by deepening relations between the AU, OACPS, among others in realising the diaspora as the sixth region of the AU”, She concluded.
According to organisers, the symposium will focus on vast areas which includes, agro-allied, science and technology, production, manufacturing and industry, infrastructure development, energy, tourism and culture, green energy and technology, health, education, finance, economic development and information communication technology
Kenya hosted the event for the first time in Africa in 2020. The summit set for April 27 and 28, at the ministry of foreign affairs in Abuja, Nigeria will be the second time a nation in Africa will open its door to GADS.
