Nigeria will now enjoy greater economic cooperation from China, according to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who noted Nigeria’s significance to both Africa and the world.

Nigeria’s new president, Bola Tinubu met with Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy, Peng Qinghua, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. He led a delegation, which included the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, and Minister-Counsellor Zhang Yi, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Chinese envoy conveyed Xi Jinping’s message to Tinubu and praised his strategy for guiding Nigeria into a new age of economic growth and prosperity but noted that there were some areas where Nigeria could gain from China.

He urged Tinubu to likewise improve the environment for investment as he urged the two nations to exchange ideas and synchronise their agendas.

Tinubu responded by stating that Nigeria is open for trade and cooperative partnerships and that it would do business with any nation willing to do business with it.

“We need accelerated growth, and we are ready to do business honestly with those who are ready to do business with us”, Tinubu said.

“We will continue to work to promote democracy in the West African sub-region. I’m a product of democracy and shall work day and night to advance democracy.”

“We will fight terrorism and all forms of criminality. We can learn from each other, but we will remain non-aligned,” he concluded.
