ABUJA- Pakistan has called on the international community to institute an independent, transparent and fair investigation into the alleged human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi accused the Indian government of unleashing a reign of terror on Jammu and Kashmir despite commitments made by the early Indian leadership and numerous resolutions of the United Nations Security Council on the occupied territories.
Abbasi, whose speech was read by Asim Ali Khan, the Charge d’ Affaires of Pakistan High Commission at a reception in Abuja, said from July 2016 to September 2017, over 460 innocent Kashmiris have been killed and over 20,000 injured.
“Over 200 people have lost eyesight, while vision of thousands has been impaired. Over 7,000 Kashmiris have been arrested with their current status unknown, while scores of women have been raped and molested,” Abbasi said.
The PM added that, “These facts seek urgent attention of the international community. The denial of the right to self-determination for the last seven decades raises questions about the conscience of the international community and the United Nations.”
He said Pakistan has supported the proposal of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for sending a fact finding mission to Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the Indian government to honour commitments of its founding fathers and ensure implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir to end the long-standing dispute.
He however reiterated Pakistan’s “unflinching and steadfast moral, diplomatic and political support for the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The support would continue until the realisation of the lawful right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
