Sen. Kashim Shettima, the vice president-elect of Nigeria, had a courtesy call from Mr. David Greene, the interim charge d’affaires of the US Embassy in Nigeria, on Tuesday in Abuja.

President-elect Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Sen. Shettima were declared winners of the 2023 Nigeria presidential election and are billed to be sworn in on May 29, 2023.

Though the reason for the visit is yet unknown, sources close to Sen. Shettima claim that it was made out of goodwill and support for the Nigerian people as the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected president and vice president approaches.

As a result of numerous meetings and discussions between the president, vice president elect, and representatives of the U.S. Embassy at various times, there is widespread speculation that US-Nigeria relations may take a serious turn under the new president.

David Greene was appointed deputy chief of mission by the American Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, in August 2022. Greene is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Since March 31, 2023, Greene has been the American Embassy’s interim charge d’affaires in Abuja.
