Romanian officials met with the President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA) Dennis Francis this week, emphasizing the importance of a more robust and inclusive UN system.
Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminita Odobescu, alongside Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, lauded Francis’ leadership on climate change and underscored Romania’s commitment to a strengthened UN where all member states have an equal voice.
“Together with PM Ciolacu, it was a pleasure to meet the President of the General Assembly and thank him for his leadership on climate change,” Odobescu tweeted. “We discussed major UN processes and the consolidation of the UN role where Romania and all UN States have an equal voice.”
Ciolacu echoed Odobescu’s sentiments, highlighting the upcoming Summit of the Future in 2024 as a critical test for the UN’s ability to address global challenges.
“The Summit of the Future in 2024 will be a major test for the @UN, a high-stakes exam for the ability of member states to work together effectively,” Ciolacu tweeted. “I had the occasion to discuss about the ambitious prospects of the Summit with Dennis Francis @UN_PGA.”
These meetings underscore Romania’s growing role within the UN and its commitment to a more inclusive and effective global organization. As a member of the European Union and a key player in the Black Sea region, Romania’s voice is increasingly influential on the world stage.
