Serbian Embassy Hosts Inaugural Film Festival in the U.S.

Washington, D.C. – The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the United States hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of the first-time Serbian Film Festival in the city. The event gathered Serbian actors, directors, media professionals, and a diverse group of American and Serbian guests, including industry professionals, academics, and cultural enthusiasts, from across the United States, making it a cultural milestone.

The Serbian Film Festival aims to showcase the richness of Serbian culture and the country’s vibrant cinematography. By organizing this week-long event, the Serbian Embassy seeks to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Serbia’s film industry among international audiences.

Arno Gujon, Director of the Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy for the Government of Serbia, delivered a brief speech at the Serbian Embassy in Washington, D.C., in line with the event’s focus. His remarks highlighted the importance of strengthening international ties through cultural initiatives such as the film festival.

The festival opened with a screening of “Mommy’s Sun” by Kosta Đorđević, which drew a large audience, including representatives of the diplomatic corps and officials from the District of Columbia. With a strong focus on film, the festival aims to reflect the diverse stories and talent emerging from Serbia while encouraging further collaboration between Serbian and American filmmakers.

Gujon also acknowledged the contributions of the organization “Krug Orphelin” from Washington and the Serbian Embassy in the U.S. for their efforts in making this cultural event a success.

The reception provided a unique opportunity for guests to meet key figures in Serbian cinema, strengthening connections between the Serbian and American artistic communities.

The festival presents Serbia’s wide-ranging stories and talent, nurturing future cooperation between Serbian and American filmmakers.
