Ambassador Urban Ahlin, who most recently held the position of Sweden’s Ambassador to Canada, has officially presented his credentials to President Biden, marking his entry into the United States. Prior to his ambassadorial role in Canada, he served as a member of the Swedish Parliament representing the Social Democratic Party.

In 2014, Ambassador Ahlin achieved the significant role of Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Sveriges Riksdag, and held this position until 2018. His parliamentary journey began in 1994 when he first became a member of Parliament. Over the years, he actively contributed to foreign policy, including chairing the Committee on Foreign Affairs and participating in crucial bodies like the War Delegation, the Swedish Defence Commission, and the Committee on European Affairs.

Furthermore, Ambassador Ahlin played a vital role in the Social Democratic Party, serving as its Foreign Policy Spokesperson and being part of the party’s Executive Board. Notably, he was among the founding members of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), a pioneering pan-European think-tank established in 2007.
