The unforgettable moments of culture and heritage at Lithuania EU Open House

The Lithuania EU Open House event, held last Saturday in Washington DC, attracted an enthusiastic crowd of over 2,000 visitors. This annual event, organized by the Lithuanian Embassy in collaboration with the EU Open House, presented  Lithuania’s rich history, vibrant culture, and mouthwatering gastronomy.

Upon entering the Lithuania EU Open House, visitors were immediately immersed in the essence of Lithuanian culture. A wide range of engaging activities provided a comprehensive understanding of Lithuania’s history, traditions, and contributions to the European Union.

Exhibitions brought the cultural heritage of Lithuania to life, featuring its art, music, and literature. Attendees had the opportunity to marvel at unique artifacts, learn about famous Lithuanian figures, and appreciate the country’s vibrant artistic expressions.

Delighting not only the eyes and mind but also the taste buds, the Lithuania EU Open House placed a special focus on culinary delights. Traditional Lithuanian dishes took center stage, offering visitors a chance to indulge in mouthwatering treats and experience the flavors that have become an integral part of Lithuanian identity.

Moreover, the event served as a platform to highlight Lithuania’s achievements and contributions as a member of the European Union. Informative sessions and presentations shed light on Lithuania’s active participation in EU policy areas, including economic growth, consumer protection, security, and defense.

Audra Pleptye, the Lithuanian Ambassador to the U.S. and Mexico, expressed her pride in a post-event tweet, stating, “Proud of my team! @LTembassyUS along with #EUOpenHouse hosted thousands of visitors. Great opportunity to present #Lithuanian history, culture, and gastronomy!”

The success of the Lithuania EU Open House reflects Lithuania’s unwavering commitment to the values and principles of the European Union. Since becoming an EU member on May 1, 2004, Lithuania has actively participated in various EU policy areas, upholding core EU values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. Additionally, Lithuania implements structural reforms that benefit its citizens, further strengthening its position within the EU.
