Trump Pledges to Overturn Transgender Policies on Day One of His Presidency

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump vowed on Sunday to “end the transgender lunacy” as his administration prepares to take control of the White House and both chambers of Congress. Speaking at the AmericaFest conference for young conservatives in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump outlined a series of policies aimed at curbing LGBTQ+ rights.

“There will only be male and female in America,” Trump declared. “I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, remove transgender individuals from the military, and eliminate transgender ideology from our elementary, middle, and high schools.”

He also promised to “keep men out of women’s sports,” stating that the official U.S. government policy would recognize only two genders: male and female.

Transgender Issues in U.S. Politics

The debate over transgender rights has become a polarizing issue in U.S. politics. While Democratic-led states have expanded access to gender-affirming care and inclusive policies, Republican-controlled states have moved to restrict such measures, including limiting access to medical treatments and banning certain books addressing transgender topics in schools and public libraries.

Last week, Congress passed its annual defense budget, which included provisions to restrict funding for gender-affirming care for the children of military service members, further highlighting the divide.

Trump’s Vision for a Second Term

During his speech on December 23, Trump painted a bleak picture of the current administration under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, promising a dramatic shift in direction.

“On January 20, the United States will turn the page forever on four long, horrible years of failure, incompetence, and national decline,” he said. “We will inaugurate a new era of peace, prosperity, and national greatness.”

Trump also pledged to resolve major global conflicts, promising to end the war in Ukraine, restore stability in the Middle East, and prevent “World War III.” He concluded with a bold proclamation: “The golden age of America is upon us.”
