Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, met with Hans Grundberg, United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Yemen, to discuss the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis and the ongoing efforts to create favorable conditions for a ceasefire and advance toward a sustainable political solution.

Gargash reaffirmed the UAE’s support for international efforts to end the Yemeni crisis and bring relief to the Yemeni people. He also praised the work of the UN and Special Envoy Grundberg in this regard.

Gargash and Grundberg discussed the recent announcement by the UN of a finalized plan to unload the floating oil storage unit, the “FSO Safer,” located off the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea. They commended the UN and Secretary-General António Guterres for their dedication to this important issue, as well as the contributions of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen and donor nations. The unloading of the FSO Safer averted a potential environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.

Grundberg provided an overview of the recent developments in the Yemeni file, including discussions with international, regional, and local stakeholders, as well as ongoing relevant initiatives. He expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s support for his work and for the efforts of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the UAE’s commitment to working with the UN and all relevant stakeholders to achieve a peaceful and prosperous future for Yemen.
