Kenyan Ambassador, His Excellency, Lazarus Ombai Amayo concluded his diplomatic service in the United States with a farewell ceremony hosted by the Acting Chief of Protocol of the US State Department, Ethan Rosenzweig at the Blair House, also known as The President’s Guest House, in Washington, D.C.
A distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Molly Phee, state department officials, Ambassadors, business leaders, civil society leaders, and Embassy staff, came together to celebrate Ambassador Amayo’s distinguished career.
Ambassador Amayo served in various high-ranking positions before his role in the US. Notably, on July 17, 2020, at the White House in Washington D.C., he presented his Letters of Credence to President Donald J. Trump, officially accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kenya to the United States.
These included roles as Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations and High Commissioner of Kenya to the United Kingdom. Additionally, he held leadership positions within the International Maritime Organization, the Commonwealth Organization, and the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to his diplomatic career, Ambassador Amayo was a Member of Parliament for Karachuonyo Constituency and Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Education in Kenya. His career began as a teacher, demonstrating his lifelong dedication to helping his community.
President Ruto of Kenya recognized Ambassador Amayo’s remarkable qualifications and experience and appointed him as the Special Envoy of the African Union Champion for Institutional Reforms.
