Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has arrived in Taiwan as part of his first international trade mission to Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. The International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT) reported the announcement made by the Presidential Office spokeswoman, Kolas Yotaka.
Governor Youngkin and his delegation met with President Tsai Ing-wen to discuss ways of deepening Taiwan-US partnerships in various fields and strengthening the global democratic supply chain. The talks focused on more opportunities for collaboration between the two sides and reinforced their relationship.
Kolas Yotaka mentioned that the governor has been a strong supporter of Taiwan, as demonstrated by signing a Virginia State Legislature cross-party friendship bill supporting Taiwan’s international participation into law earlier this year.
During his visit, Governor Youngkin will engage with government officials, strategic business associations, company executives, and global industry leaders to further strengthen Virginia’s economic and cultural connections.
Virginia is home to several foreign-owned businesses, including 5 from Taiwan, 133 from Japan, and 25 from South Korea. Governor Youngkin’s visit aims to enhance economic development opportunities, shared priorities and national security.
He is excited to represent the Commonwealth in his first trade mission to Asia and strengthen relationships with allies while reaffirming Virginia’s commitment to its partners.
