The United Arab Emirates (UAE) illuminated its most recognizable landmarks in the colors of the Russian flag on Saturday evening, expressing heartfelt solidarity with the victims of the devastating terrorist attack that rocked Moscow the previous day.
The horrific incident at the Crocus City Hall concert hall tragically claimed the lives of over 130 people, leaving many more injured. Following the attack, the Russian government declared March 24th a national day of mourning.
In a powerful gesture of unity, iconic structures across the UAE, including the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, were bathed in the white, blue, and red hues of the Russian flag. Joining the Burj Khalifa were prominent landmarks like the ADNOC Headquarters, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Frame, and Sheikh Zayed Bridge.
The move by the UAE authorities and development company Emaar on the Burj Khalifa was accompanied by a message displayed on the facade in both Arabic and English, declaring “The United Arab Emirates Supports Russia.” Similar messages of solidarity were echoed by the UAE’s state news agency, WAM.
WAM condemned the attack in its strongest terms, calling it “aimed at destabilization and incompatible with international law.” The agency further emphasized the UAE’s unwavering opposition to terrorism and its unwavering support for Russia in the fight against such acts of violence.
