A Nigerian teacher, Dr. Peter Ogudoro was at the weekend celebrated in Lagos by the British Council for outstanding social action in Nigeria’s education industry. This was at the Study UK Alumni Awards ceremony for Nigeria organized by the British Council at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos to celebrate the award finalists for Nigeria.
According to the British Council, “the Study UK Alumni Awards is a prestigious global awards scheme that finds and celebrates the outstanding alumni of UK Higher Education Institutions and the impact that they are having around the world. Award finalists are leaders who can articulate how they have used their UK education to make a difference in their professions, societies and countries.”
The British Council explains that “the global winners will be invited to the UK for a professional networking visit to build their networks and boost their careers.”
Dr. Peter Ogudoro is one of the three finalists for Social Action who are in the race for the Global Awards which will be announced later in the year. The Nigerian Teachers community he founded in 2016, which now has a membership of about half a million members is one of his outstanding accomplishments that have earned him the honour.
The community is a free continuous professional development platform for Nigerian teachers and many other teachers who have joined them from around the world.
Dr. Ogudoro while responding to questions from the press at the event which was attended by the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Ben Llewellyn-Jones and other dignitaries said that the Nigerian Teachers community which is an online gathering of teachers and other education stakeholders with focus on the empowerment of teachers for learner-centred teaching and significant improvement of their own welfare in a grossly under-resourced education system.
He says that the platform has become the most vibrant teachers’ platform for learning and networking globally. This ingenious platform won Dr. Ogudoro the Facebook Community Accelerator Award for 2021, and has become a major destination for education researchers around the world who have joined the community to learn about teaching practices in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Dr. Peter Ogudoro is an alumnus of the University of Reading in the UK where he earned a PhD in Education with emphasis on Career Management, Product and Innovation Diffusion, and Attitude Change. He gives University of Reading credit for equipping him with the uncommon research, negotiation, leadership, and learning skills as well as the amazing international network that have, according to him, “become invaluable currencies with which he purchases incredible opportunities to serve humanity.”
It is Dr. Ogudoro’s wish that governments at all levels in Nigeria will take advantage of the free learning platform for teachers to train and retrain all Nigerian teachers for a more globally competitive education system which, according to him, is indispensable for the country’s accelerated development.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
