Members of Parliament have voted heavily against a British exit (Brexit) from the European Union as Prime Minister, Theresa May lingers on a lean hope.
MPs voted 432 against Brexit and 202 for it. Such heavy loss has usually been succeeded by the Prime Minister’s resignation but May has stayed defiant against calls for her exit.
Labour leader, Jeremy Corby has tabled a vote of no confidence which could lead to a general election.
Corbyn said the confidence vote would allow the Commons to “give its verdict on the sheer incompetence of this government”.
If MPs vote to back a no confidence motion, the government, or anyone else who can command a majority, would get 14 days to win a further confidence vote. If they can’t win that, a general election will be then held, according to the BBC.
One hundred and eighteen(118) Conservatives MPs voted the opposition, the Labour to defeat Prime Minister May’s deal.
May has offered talks with both parties to seek a way forward on Brexit.
