The United Nations office in Nigeria, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has conferred an award on H.E. Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire for achieving 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The 2011 Guinness Book of World Records holder for the most children reading aloud with an adult at a single location has been a strong advocate of the SDGs in Nigeria.
After receiving the award, H.E. Adejoke expressed her “profound gratitude to the UN in Nigeria under the leadership of Mathias Schmale and Mo Yahya, the UNDP representative to Nigeria. She said it was for their commitment towards the implementation of the SDGs in Nigeria.”
“Together, we have made significant progress”, she said.
During the event in honor of H.E. Orelope-Adefulire, Fati Attahiru, UNDP Nigeria’s Deputy Resident Representative-Operations, thanked the recipient for her commitment to the progress of the SDGs in Nigeria.
“We celebrate you for outstanding contributions to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria. UNDP and the entire UN are honored to have worked with you and to witness the dividends of our collaboration and partnerships,” she said.
H.E. Orelope-Adefulire was a former Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on the SDGs. She has also served as deputy governor of Lagos State from 2011 to 2015. She was recognized for her immense contribution to the implementation of the UN SDGs in Nigeria.
In 2007, she was awarded “Public Servant of the Year” by “The Scottish Widows”, a UK-based Non-governmental Organization. Three years later, she received the Daisey George Award for her continuous support for the rights of women and children in Nigeria.
