A delegation from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR; the Chief of Defense Staff of the Nigerian Army.
The delegation was visiting the Defense Headquarters to promote discussions with the hierarchy of the army about major issues they believed were essential to the advancement of the Nigerian army.
The delegation was led by UNDP country representative Mo Yahya, and was welcomed by General Musa.
Rep. Yahya congratulated General Musa on his recent promotion and wished him well in his new role.
During the visit, Rep. Yahya expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the UNDP and the Nigerian Army in addressing critical issues related to sustainable development and security.
The parties discussed areas of mutual interest that were considered essential to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Topics of discussion between the two parties included climate change, justice, security, and peacebuilding, as well as the prevention and stability of conflicts in Africa.
They also discussed partnerships for stabilization, DDR, and the Borno model.
The UNDP considers the Nigerian military a key partner in its development strides and in delivering the SDGs.
The UNDP was formed in 1965 as an organization saddled with the responsibility of catering to the burden of poverty and human development, by ensuring the acceleration of growth.
